I built the "Bird of Dawning", Searunner 37 #23, in Alameda Calif, during the years 1968-1972.
I then cruised to Southern California, Honolulu, Fanning Is, Pago Pago, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Rarotonga, Tahiti, Huahine, Bora Bora, Hawaii, Tarawa, Marshall Is, Kusaie, Ponape, and Saipan.
This covered about 20,000 miles over a five year period. Bird of Dawning was lost in a 200 kt typhoon in Saipan harbor in 1987.
I experienced just about every sea condition possible in that time (except ice) and still feel that it's probably the best cruising machine ever designed.
