Former Boat Name: Yellow Bird

Present Location: Slidell, Louisiana, SA
Remarks:
We purchased Yellow Bird in December 2002 and hauled it for a refit taking
eight months. The boat was constructed by Rex Poe and his wife in Arkansas and finished in 1984.
I have replaced the gas engine with a Yanmar 3GM30F. Removed the minikeel and put a kevlar layer where the boat would sit down. Removed the skeg. Replaced the rudder with a composite one. I took the planform from Farrier and Newick. I used the NACA 12 formula.
Have only had the sails up in light air so far. The helm feels light and brings the boat about in 5-7 winds without struggle. The test of the rudder and absence of minikeel and skeg will be in the 15-25 conditionns.Fully battened the main. We love the boat and hope to cruise the caribbean next year.
Would appreciate a dialogue with other Searunner owners to attempt to limit the number of landmines I step on. |
