Then back to St. George's lagoon, Grenada for storage June 01.

After that Jacamar was sailed for a week with 3 crew into and back from the Grenadines, then with Helma and Maya with the skipper (John) for a month to Bequia and back. In Bequia the port aft deck support was reinforced.

In May of '03 Jacamar took out 3 crew into and out of the Grenadines as far as Bequia over 10 days. The aluminum masthead casting failed at the forestay pin, dropping the forestay, but the mast remained erect. Jacamar returned to Grenada under reefed main and staysail using the jib halyard as a temporary forestay. In Grenada the mast was lifted by crane onto the deck and the masthead removed. Tony (local) assisted.

In June of '04 Jacamar was hauled at Spice Island Marina in Grenada's Prickley Bay. Brother Chuck assisted the Skipper. Gerard and other locals helped. Over 3 weeks the following was done:

Bottom cleaned.

A new masthead from LeFiell (sales@lefiell.com 800-451-5971 Santa Fe Springs, Ca) installed as replacement for the failed one on this Famet 5 mast.

Three mast wiring conduits were riveted at 3' intervals with aluminum rivets.

A new refrigeration compressor and a galley electric water pump were installed.

The exhaust manifold/swan neck union was replaced with a stainless one.

Three weeks later she was sailed into to the Grenadines and back. See the following:

http://www.usual-suspects-sailing.com/exp-grenadines-tobagocays.htm

Onboard: Capt. John, brother Chuck, Helma & Maya. Returned to St. George's Lagoon. Jacamar left side tied to a steel hulled ketch, in turn tied to a larger steel motor yacht. Jacamar also had out a stern anchor (35 lb. CQR) and a bow line to a coconut tree belonging to local, Mary at Island Paradise "Bamboo" bar.

On Sept. 7, 2004 Hurricane Ivan blasted Grenada with Category 4 winds wreaking havoc throughout the island. Jacamar was dismasted. Her starboard ama sank raising the port one a few feet out of the water. After a few days the entire deck was awash.

Jacamar is partially salvageable. She is now for sale as is, where is.

Onboard are:

A Yanmar 27h.p. 3 cyl. inboard diesel (3GM30) and 2" exhaust system including water muffler, transmission, 1" prop shaft, strut and 14" 3 bladed prop. I've talked to professionals and know that it doesn't matter how long the engine's been under water. What does matter is how quickly and thoroughly it gets rinsed/cleaned/dried out after it comes out of the water. Done right, it can live and run again. The engine can be hoisted with either the crane at an engineering firm nearby or the mobile crane that hoisted her mast twice.

Additional equipment still aboard are professionally fabricated custom bow nets (Sunrise Yacht Products $841 new), new mainsail (Alec Sails, Bequia $1300 new), 45lb CQR anchor & chain, a new dingy sail and spars, oars, a whole lot of Tupperware ($100's worth), head, dodger, bimini and a lot of other equipment - Hummingbird depthsounder/fishfinder transducer (I have the readout head at home), Catadyn ceramic water filter, Baja fuel filter, German rigging shears, etc. etc...

It would be possible to inflate inner tubes and/or inflatables under her starboard underwing and raise the damaged starboard ama enough to pump out the intact main hull and port ama enabling equipment retrieval. Jacamar is available for pennies on the dollar.
